For nearly two centuries, the city of Baku has been one of the world's largest centers for oil production and refining. It all began back in 1846, when the world's first oil well was drilled in Baku. After that, a true oil boom occurred here. Even now, Baku's landscape draws attention with its drilling rigs and oil pumps. You can see beam pumps extracting "black gold" everywhere here—it is enough to just take a drive around the outskirts of the city.
