Every Azerbaijani home keeps a dried bundle of uzerlik — a plant known here as “the witch's grass.” Tradition holds that smoke from its burning seeds wards off the evil eye, so it's used to bless newborns, brides, and new homes. Bundles hang over doorways, and at weddings someone always carries the smoking herb through the crowd, saying “Göz dəyməsin” — may no evil eye fall on you.
